A work in progress chorepoem which attempts to give voice to the origins of some of the pain and dysfunction found in our community of African-American women. The play addresses many issues which include mental health, the growing numbers of women in prison, our continued self-esteem crisis and the widening disconnect with our Black men. Girl Peace offers hope, provides advice and promotes joy. For Colored Girls…for The New Millennium.
AND FIVE WERE NOT MEN
This play is inspired by the Martinsville Seven rape case. Set in the rural South in the early fifties, seven young African American men contemplate their final hour. When Leroy Simmons can’t remember the incident which placed him there, his brother along with others, re-create the story to help him find his truth and theirs.
